(February 12, 2011) -- An ambitious season is coming together for I-88 Speedway in Afton NY. A new surface was applied last fall while the track was being widened. The backstretch wall was pushed out 12 feet and turns three and four were rounded off and widened by 20 feet. The front stretch was also expanded to provide more racing room in preparation for the test and tune sessions scheduled for April 1 and April 8. Grandstand admission will be free for the test and tune sessions with the donation of a non-perishable food item. The track will be ready for opening night on Friday, April 15 at the new starting time of 7 pm with Modifieds, Sportsmen, Street Stocks and FWD 4 Cylinders back for the 2011 season. In addition, the IMCA Modifieds have been added to the weekly program at the speedway. This season the general admission will be $10 for adults with a Family Fun 5 Pack which consists of general admission for two adults and three children along with five hot dogs and sodas for $30.

The tentative schedule includes weekly events through the end of September with the return of the Spooktacular planned for late October. The CRSA Sprints will be back at the speedway on the second Friday of the month from May through August. The Modifieds and IMCA Modifieds will have their Mid-Season Championship Night on July 1 with the Sportsmen, Street Stocks and FWD 4 Cylinders championship night coming on July 15. A guaranteed starting spot for the Flyin’ Milkman Kenny Moore Classic at Thunder Mountain Speedway on Sunday, July 3, will be on the line for the Sportsmen on June 17. On July 22 the tradition of racing during the Afton Fair will continue with the regular five division show.

There will be two midweek specials during the summer months for the Modifieds and at least one other division to be determined at a later date. The Empire Series Tour for the IMCA Modifieds is planned to be on hand for one of those shows. The season will wind down in September with Season Championship Night for the Street Stocks and Sportsmen on September 9 and the IMCA Modifieds, FWD 4 Cylinders and Modifieds the following week. There will be racing on September 23 and September 30 with classes to be determined.

The 2011 season will bring the inaugural 4 Cylinder Challenge Cup which will pay $50 to the three drivers who collect the most points in each month from May through August. To be eligible the driver must be compete in the class in each event scheduled during the month. A driver can collect the money just once during the season so each month three new drivers will cash in on the challenge. At the end of the season there will be a 12 lap Challenge Cup Championship event for the twelve drivers who collect the honors.

There will be three Fan Appreciation nights throughout the year in addition to a Flagger’s Fan of the Week drawing with some special prizes for one lucky fan. Plans are underway to recognize some of the former racers and officials who have passed away over the years.

The point fund has been increased for the 2011 season along with the weekly purse for the returning divisions. One way radio’s will be mandatory for the 2011 season in all divisions.
