2012 Racing Season

Promoters Ron Ford and Jamie Page have been busy with preparations for the 2012 racing season at I-88 Speedway in Afton NY. Some of the changes in store for the drivers and fans include a new clay racing surface and the addition of a third mid-week show, The Wade Decker Memorial. Also as a part of the mid-week schedule, Brett Deyo has come on board with a Supernationals Qualifier. 2012 will also see the addition of the Empire Sport Trucks on a semi-regular basis during the regular Friday night racing program.

After consulting with the engineer Randy Hirschey who advised Utica Rome Speedway on their new clay surface, a clay sample was sent for testing and it proved to be comparable to the surface put down at the Vernon NY facility in 2011. The clay that was tested will be used for the new surface at I-88 Speedway. This has added a tremendous excitement for the staff as well as the competitors at the Afton facility. The I-88 promoters wanted to thank Gene Cole for his support and concern to help improve the I-88 Racing Facility.

The Afton Village Board approved a third midweek date for the 2012 season at the speedway. A part of that three race schedule will be the Wade Decker Memorial to honor the former Modified and Street Stock competitor who passed away in December. Also as part of the mid week schedule, Brett Deyo will be bringing a Supernationals Qualifier to the speedway. The Supernationals is a large event held in October at Five Mile Point Speedway which brings in the best racing talent in the northeast. Qualifying for this prestigious event is a challenge and a guaranteed starting spot is highly coveted. The Empire Sport Trucks, an entry-level four cylinder division, has been added to the regular Friday night program. This new division will be running semi regularly throughout the 2012 season. The first annual Wade Decker Memorial Race will be held at I88 Speedway in 2012. We will start working on all the details in the near future to make this a great show in Wade's honor. We talked with Wade's dad Hank today and the whole Decker family will be working with us to make this the best show possible. We will release all details when worked out. Rules for I-88 Speedway are now available. Changes were made to the General Rules on 01/29/2011. Changes were made to the Modified Engine Rules and the Sportsman Engine Rules on 01/14/2011.
