Mitch Gibbs capitalized on Brian Weaver’s bad luck to take his second Newbauer Construction Modified feature win of the season at I-88 Speedway in Afton NY on Friday night. In his second appearance of the season Weaver quickly moved to the front of the 25 car starting field from his eleventh starting spot. Taking the lead from Mike Clapperton on lap five, Weaver soon began reeling in lapped traffic. Disaster stuck on lap 12 when Weaver tangled with a lapped car coming off turn four sending the leader barrel rolling onto the front stretch. Weaver emerged from his car uninjured, but the ride sustained heavy damage in the accident. Gibbs, who started tenth in the grid, inherited the lead on the restart and held off a hard charging Chris Shupp, who started eighteenth, for the win. Shaun Walker finished third with Arnie Slade fourth and Paul Jensen fifth.
